The Accountant Who Went Missing In Maine

How many people go missing every year in the United States? According to  National Missing and Unidentified Persons (NamUS) database, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 600,000.

In Maine this year so far there are 108 people missing.

Right now there are a couple of men missing in our area and people notice, people post about it, one family made signs of their adult son’s face and posted them on all the main roads in a couple counties.

We like to think that we notice when other people disappear.

But sometimes? Sometimes we don’t.

Because Shaun was a cop in Downeast Maine and because I had a stint as a reporter and newspaper editor, there is an occasional case where we not only know the location, we also know the players, the cops, the DA, the people whose hearts were broken.

And that’s the case when it comes to Richard Bellittieri, a Trenton, Maine man, a nice man, an accountant, who went missing and nobody noticed.
